Event Description

Math In Action – NNVMath Enrichment Program 2020-2021

NOTE: We are jumping in a bit late. Our first challenge will begin 10/23/2020.

Math Challenge is a program offered by Math In Action. Math Challenge is designed to challenge kids beyond their daily math work. This is an action to push kids to their maximum potential and develop out of box thinking strategy and problem-solving skills.

NNVMath will include MATH IN ACTION as part of our offerings again this year. We love this program because it allows younger kids to see problems they wouldn’t typically see and let them stretch beyond what is on the skills checklist for their grade. For older students, it allows them to see connections between the problems they solved in lower grades to more challenging problems. This helps them develop the valuable skill of applying what they already know to new problems.

Math in Action provides challenge sets throughout the school year; each set is published every other week starting in late September or early October and ending in May. These math challenges cover problem solving strategies such as draw a picture or model, make an organized list, look for a pattern, working backward, and guess and check.

Each challenge presents 16 to 18 problems ordered by level of difficulties which enables students from K - 8th grade. All the challenges need to be submitted online for scoring.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
How to participate? Register at NNVMath.org or within your account at MYNNVMath.org.
Go to https://www.mathinaction.org/nnvmath.html and start the challenge when it's available online.
Submit answers in MyNNVMath.org.

COST: You may do Math Challenge for free by going to the link under How To Participate and download the challenge and complete it, and check it when they release solutions.

For those wanting a bit more, we are creating videos after each Math Challenge that point out cool problems and get kids excited (Math Challenge has an after video this year that all participants have access to view but it's very much a lecture and not very engaging). When the challenge is focused on a specific area/topic, we will be creating a introduction/review video for registered students to watch and sending the link to the students who are registered. Registered students will submit their challenge answers in MyNNVMath.org and be eligible for program recognitions. The fee for this level is $30.
